A couple of months before the big day, Bernadette asked Mama if she would make her a First Communion Dress, but with a four month old baby, it wasn't looking promising. Then in mid-March, the three big girls went to spend some time at Grandpa's farm and Mama sat down in the sewing room for about 12 straight hours. After much hard work, she had the dress mostly finished and just needed to try it on. When the girls returned, she tried it on and it was perfect. A week later, she made a veil to go with it and we found a women's scarf to use as a shawl.
In the weeks leading up to First Communion, there were a number of tasks to complete. One of which was a first communion banner. Bernadette designed hers and with a little help from Mama and Papa, it turned out pretty nice.
On the big day, we had a reception (after a brief intermission for a soccer game) and then had some friends and family over for a party. Bernadette had asked for a layered cake and since Mama knew of a home-schooled young lady who decorated cakes, we engaged her to make one. We were very happy with how it turned out.
It was a beautiful day for a beautiful young lady.
