Last year we discovered a program run by the Nebraska Game and Parks commission. It is called the Great Park Pursuit. They set up destinations across the state of Nebraska, mostly in State Recreation Areas (SRAs) and parks. We only found out about it 3 weeks before the end of last year's program, so this year, we wanted to be on the ball and get started from the beginning. It started May 1st and goes through September 16th. With 20 destinations to visit, it makes for a busy summer. Each location will have a printout on the website. The printout features clues on how to find the marker, information about the destination and, most importantly, an area in which to do the rubbing. When you arrive at the destination, you use the clues provided to find the post. The clues are often very simple and the posts are rather easy to find, most of the time. On top of each post is a nature impression. You place your printout over it and with a pencil, crayon, or even a marker, you make a rubbing to see the picture. The girls love trying to find the post and look forward to each park. They are scattered across the state though, so there is often some planning required to get to each location. We'll post our progress on the blog so you can follow what our family has done so far!Wednesday, May 1, 2013
